Saatchi & Saatchi Calls for Entries to Internationally Renowned New Director’s Showcase

Aspiring South African Film Makers Encouraged to Enter

The internationally renowned Saatchi & Saatchi New Director’s Showcase is open for entries to aspiring South African filmmakers this month. The Saatchi & Saatchi New Director’s Showcase is the most enthusiastically attended show at the annual Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival and represents the very best in new directing talent, identified by Saatchi & Saatchi globally.

“The showcase is an excellent platform from which to launch new talent and we’re hoping that this will enthuse and encourage local agencies and production houses to seriously look at investing in young directors and submit great work in order to be featured on this prestigious creative platform,” says Gavin Whitfield, creative director at Saatchi & Saatchi.

Whitfield says that the global objective of the showcase is to engage new talent by getting new directors to send in their reels to The Saatchi & Saatchi New Director’s Showcase, where they have a chance to be highlighted and discovered by their future clients. “It is open to directors of all film formats and styles but directors are only eligible for consideration if they directed their first film specifically made for advertising purposes after June 2009,” Whitfield adds.

Process

The Saatchi & Saatchi Network of 150 offices in 86 countries is responsible for finding the best new directors. The heads of broadcast production and creative directors are constantly trawling for new talent. We also have relationships with key internet sites to identify candidates. We usually have some 500 directors to review as part of the selection process.
From all this material, a shortlist is compiled and the final selection for the reel is made by the Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide Creative Board.

Final Selection

The Worldwide Creative Board makes its decisions based on the following characteristics:
The ability of the director to execute an idea on screen; an innovative technique or style and outstanding directorial skill.
